A kinda weird question. If you were to write an , just the standard document itself: Under what license would you put it to make sure it is irrevocably available for free to anyone but also making sure it cannot be altered by downstream recipients? 1/n

@zippy1981 @mcc @bruceiv if you eliminate all the options that are not you can work based on what is technically most fitting.

If they all use an that should just work.

@encthenet in fact, I'd argue that even Amazon's shitty is an since there are multiple drop-in reimplemetations and unlike say , doesn't even try to ban those.

Cuz |s and |s are critical.

() and () are essentially the same, you just have to use a different prefix. And they are both .

So, best use an , , vendor-agnostic framework for your code. To make sure it can run on any HPC system.

For applications, you don’t need nVidia GPUs as well. Platform is possible nowadays!

@michael @lightweight @anildash Yeah, this issue is one of the things @pluralistic has written quite a bit about.

In my country, refusing to work with any Microsoft-derived technology in IT will basically remove >70% of jobs, right from the get-go.

We did get some good things out of M$'s laziness though, like the & , which work just fine in (why VSC when you have Emacs?) and have greatly improved its ability to be used for among other languages.

So what is Matrix (or The Matrix)? The introduction page says:

"Matrix is an open standard for interoperable, decentralised, real-time communication over IP."

So, anyone can run their home server, create as many spaces as they need or join the others. And connect to any number of communication channels with a bridge, be it WhatsApp, Slack or mobile messages. That enables all the communication to happen in one place.

I have used it from the account created on a public server. But I will set up a server with Docker this weekend and start playing with it. There could be lots of room for improvement, and I could face some issues -- but the community must be looking for open-source lovers to contribute to testing and feedback to improve.

I urge all open-source lovers to try it once, and I will put it on the list of software I advocate.

I do use 8+ methods/apps for my everyday chat communications. And most people working directly or indirectly in the IT or digital field do the same.

-- WhatsApp for friends and family
-- Slack for clients and old tech and social communities
-- Discord for new communities and new age techie
-- Signal for those friends who like privacy
-- Skype for calls with my old colleague and clients
-- Facebook Messenger for friends made on social media
-- And sometimes IRC, or GTalk, or Instagram Messenger, or Telegram etc

So last year, when I came across Matrix protocol, I felt much relieved. I knew then and there that I had found a very excellent and valuable tool for me, which I can run myself cause open-source, and I have fun doing so.

@Greviculteur @matrix

But there are various implementations of it. Conduit, Cinny, Thunderbird, to name the few. Everything gives its own vision of Matrix in their app/server. That's why having is awesome. It shows that the thing can live without Synapse & Element. But having them as a reference never hurts, and Matrix Foundation constantly hosts weekly reports with occassional sessions to include as many enthusiasts as possible.
