I need help setting up a Grafana data source for my .Net application.

Who would like to see a post on a highly opioniated #OpenTelemetry implementation in #dotnet ?

I'm thinking tracing, manually (not auto), custom spans, naming, metrics I think are important (removing what isnt), trace debugging with logging, startup logging, head sampling... testing of tracing (not using unit tests to be clear)

Probably with a collector, but staying away from where to send it (because that answer is pretty obvious 😀)

What practical content is missing about #OpenTelemetry and #dotnet? What's missing?

We have good docs, however, I've started to build out usecase based posts?

Tell me what's missing and I'll get them built.

Looking into #OpenTelemetry and integration into the app stack looks manageable.

But self-hosting an #APM software like SigNoz or Uptrace sounds very taunting. So many services and pieces. And even though it may be dockerized, I'm afraid of things going sideways, leaving us with debugging services we're not familiar with.

AAAA I had to call `span.end()` for #OpenTelemetry node API to actually record the span. Otherwise the span just goes to the shadow realm. I've been hitting my head against a wall trying to figure out where all my events are, thinking I must be using #Jaeger wrong

Since it has a `startActiveSpan(() => { ... });` API where you give it a function, I thought it would just end your span when you return from your function.
