I had to share this neat trick. I like playing #openttd and since I heard of the JGR patchset, I wanted to try it. Not packaged in #guix, but you can still get it (relatively) easily:

guix build openttd --with-git-url=openttd=https://github.com/JGRennison/OpenTTD-patches --with-branch=openttd=jgrpp --without-tests=openttd

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a .4 release, but quite a few people have reported a crash when a news item appears while a drop-down menu is open.

There’s a fix for that, plus a few other fixes completed since the last #OpenTTD release.

Finally got the courage to stop using steam and only play open source games. Give the source code or gtfo. In other news #openttd is fun.

Glad to see #OpenTTD 13.4 released. Now I have to decide whether to watch game streams or play a game myself.

Playing #OpenTTD now. I usually go for temperate climate, but for a change I decided to go with subarctic this time. I’m finding, with a town above the snow line, it’s posing quite the challenge. I know I only have to deliver 1 ton of food each month, but my only food processing plant is bringing food by train to another city, leaving my food trolley line a bit underserved. Not sure of the fix for it. Maybe I should reduce the number of rail cars?

OpenTTD parenting question:

My neurodisabled 7 year old plays OpenTTD all the time. I only recently realized OpenTTD has multi player mode, including a chat function. I realized this after my kid discovered it! How do I prevent my kid from using it (ideally disabling multiplayer mode but at least disabling chat)? It is really not safe for him especially as he is highly sensitive and anxious.

For clarity, I know very little about OpenTTD but my kid plays it all the time.
