The release of gvmd 22.5.2 did break the Greenbone Community Containers and also source builds. See https://github.com/greenbone/gvmd/issues/2038 We are actively working on a solution! #greenbone #openvas
Hi! We have another Community Video :) In this one Joseph Lee from the Greenbone Community demonstrates how to do a quick first scan using the scan wizard to scan a local network IP and go over basic scan report formatting and other features.

I've updated the source build guide in the Greenbone Community Docs https://greenbone.github.io/docs/latest/22.4/source-build/index.html to Debian 12 bookworm https://github.com/greenbone/docs/pull/340 #openvas #greenbone #debian #bookworm

Our first Community Video is done! 🎉 It's a tutorial and walkthrough on how to install the Greenbone Community Edition using Docker containers.

If you’d like to follow along with the instructions- head on over to the original documentation by @bjoernricks at https://greenbone.github.io/docs/latest/22.4/container/index.html

Currently our Greenbone Community Feed Server is not available https://forum.greenbone.net/t/feed-community-greenbone-net-not-available-2023-04-23/14487/1 #greenbone #openvas
Did you know that we have preconfigured containers for the Greenbone Community Edition? Here's insight into the why and how with @bjoernricks and @FeilnerIT over on our community blog at https://community.greenbone.net/blog/docker-container-for-greenbone-community-edition/

Struggling with #gvm #openvas in #kali ? Run gvm-check-status if it comes back without any issues, then run gvm-feed-update Then open https://localhost:9392/feedstatus. If any of the feeds are still updating, wait for it to change to Current. If you still have problems, make sure your postgresql conf is listening on the correct port.
Two days ago I was able to start the little #OpenVAS scanner for some network testing. I have learned that if you start too many jobs at once, too many scans, that the entire product goes pear shaped and stops working altogether. So I rebooted it and now I'm spoon-feeding it tasks. Ah well, just another little curiosity that I don't have the time or person-power to accurately address. But hey, I am doing security scanning. Heh, ish. ;)
+ like a headless chicken fixing everything that should have been that way from the start. I should have also had this backup system ready. Thankfully opening up Postfix to create a open SMTP relay is super easy and quick, so I lucked out.
And then I remembered about #OpenVAS, #Cacti, and #Kiwi log collection. All things that fell by the wayside because we lack proper person-power to execute any of it properly.
Has anyone used vPentest.io before? I just finished building out our agent and am waiting for the SOC to try it. I'm curious of the results compared to openVAS.
Happy Friday!

Improving the situation for our #Greenbone #OpenVAS community is still one of my major ambitions for this year. One point on my list was to rewrite our shell based feed sync scripts in #Python. Finally I had some rare time to work on this :party_parrot: and I am happy to announce the first release of https://github.com/greenbone/greenbone-feed-sync 🥳
Just removed the docs for our 21.4 community edition as it is end of life and users should switch to 22.4 instead https://github.com/greenbone/docs/pull/252 #OpenVAS #Greenbone
Important: The 21.04 release series of the Greenbone Community Edition is now *end-of-life*. We strongly encouraged everyone to update to the 22.04 release series.
Greenbone Community Edition 21.04 will *not* get any further updates and releases.
Our current 22.04 bugfix release information is at https://forum.greenbone.net/t/greenbone-community-edition-22-4-1-bugfix-release-2023-01-13/13828.
For source builds or docker containers, you will find a comprehensive guide at https://greenbone.github.io/docs/

There's nothing like building the wrong servers for the SOC 🤌.
I'm going to spend some time rebuilding some Linux servers for a new scanning tool our SOC uses. We've decided to move away from Nessus (not my decision, but I'm open-minded). I still utilize OpenVAS for all of my narrowed subnets and specific endpoint stuff though. I'll post more about the tool as I familiarize myself with it.

This is somewhat meta (discussion-wise) and perhaps a bit circular 😅, but we think it's important to say why we are here, and as an open source company and community- how distributed and federated social networking is important to us, so we wrote it up on our Community Portal.

This is kind of a second part to our introduction 👋 as we're doing this a little differently here than we did on the other site. We have one account instead of three and starting to re-follow people from there over here, and also follow new people and projects.
Our prior accounts were GreenboneNet (German), GreenboneEN (English) and OpenVAS (English).
Our posts will be in English, German, or possibly both at times.

Hi! It's a good time for an introduction 👋 😀
We're Greenbone, Open Source vulnerability management and home to the OpenVAS scanner project.
We're located in Germany, and the Greenbone Community Edition is used throughout the world.
We're very happy to join you here in the Fediverse :fediverse:

I was having an issue while building openVAS this morning, but found a really useful article that ended up resolving my issue:
Basically, after issuing the sudo gvm-setup command, the following messages may appear:
[>] Starting PostgreSQL service
[-] ERROR: The default PostgreSQL version (14) is not 15 that is required by libgvmd
[-] ERROR: Use pg_upgradecluster to update your PostgreSQL cluster
One of the most probable reasons what may be preventing the service start is the port configuration - the following changes have to be done:
sudo nano /etc/postgresql/15/main/postgresql.conf - search for port and change it to 5432;
sudo nano /etc/postgresql/14/main/postgresql.conf - check whether the port is the same as in the config. file above - if so, change it to e.g. 5433 (this must be different!)
run sudo systemctl restart postgresql
(re)run sudo gvm-setup and wait for the procedure to end (updating the GVM feeds may take a while).
After swapping port numbers in the configs of both PostgreSQL versions, my install started working properly!
