Open Water Swim is the best Swim. Swam the 1K and 2K today at Insel-Ligerz-Schwimmen. Waiting in the blazing sun in neoprene before we were allowed in the water, was a bit annoying. But other then that, very nice afternoon in the water.

The water temperature at the lake has dropped a couple of degrees to 18, but the sun is shining and I enjoyed my swim around the island in just skins. I was treated to a fly-past by the kingfisher too, a glorious flash of vivid blue and orange quite low to the water. Absolutely glorious. What a way to spend an hour or so in the park.

My 81 mother-in-law just joined us for her first ever lake swim. She’s now beating herself up about only lasting 10 minutes. Crikey, if I’m this active at that age, I will be delighted.

While I haven’t been able to run much this last couple weeks, at least this week has allowed me to get an hour or so of open water swimming each day. The unpopulated beaches I frequent in this area are all coves allowing for “lap” like swimming between the rocks defining the cove. Feels good.

The open water swim from Faulensee to Spiez went pretty good. There was a constant headwind, but swimming the other direction would have presented some logistical issues with the SUPs. Water was refreshing on a hot day like this.

Off to the #swimming pool again to experiment with the Ocean Walker technique.

It’s used by #openwater #swimmers to swim for hours on end when crossing sea/ocean channels and stuff.

I grasped the basics last time but got a severe cramp after an hour and had to limp out of the pool.

There’s still some muscle ache left so today’s challenge is to take it real easy and slow.

Was looking for a new and challenging open water swim event to participate in. Found a very cool one, but the date (already end of June) could not be worse. For one I'm not nearly trained enough, but a conflict with another event is killing it for sure.

At least I now know what to aim for in 2024: the crossing of the Bodensee, swimming from Switzerland to Germany. My longest swim so far is 4km, so the 5km crossing will be a real challenge.

Up early for a 0730 swim in the lake. The water is 18 degrees now, but I popped on an extra layer to swim a bit further today and it was gorgeous. I’m skinny, get cold quickly and I’ve lost a lot of power through my arms and so move pretty slowly. When I went this far a few weeks ago in just my trunks I got really cold, so thought I’d be more careful this time. So peaceful and beautiful. A good way to start the day.
