I touched #Hugo yesterday for the first time in years. Picked a theme and started adding some content - that was a breeze (yes I'm up to something).
I wanted to add alternative sources for videos tho but the omnipresent #fontawesome lib may know a lot of brands but is missing icons for the #openweb
https://pfefferle.dev/openwebicons/ has me covered on this and while this really is in need of updates for more #Fediverse icons I have at least a Fediverse icon itself available :D
This need more. Any takers?

What weâre seeing now is the decade-in-the-making consequence of Firefox having squandered all the goodwill it generated by moving to a trendy release cycle that was exciting and rewarding for the developers but absolutely miserable for users.
If you dismiss user concerns, even if youâre a nonprofit with a Great and Noble Mission, someone will come along and build a better mousetrap. If youâre building something just for yourself or people like you, then whatever. But if you want to make something betterâthe internet, the world, whateverâarrogantly dismissing the concerns of people (âusers, PEBKACsâ) you consider dumber than you is going to mean that you are the one consigned to irrelevance, not them.
If FF had held onto its market share, we could have had a free and open internet for decades to come. As it is, we now have spyware baked directly into the worldâs most popular browser with forthcoming âweb environment integrityâ designed to lock users out of FOSS operating systems and alternative browsers forever (sure, the goal is simply to prohibit ad-blocking, but to do that thoroughly, the entire software stack needs to be iPhoneized).

Is it time to reconsider how we build websites? This is a thought piece, and I invite everyone to share their thoughts on this topic. - https://open.substack.com/pub/schalkneethling/p/is-it-time-to-reconsider-how-we-build?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web #webdevelopers #openweb #webstandards

Kagi has introduced a new initiative called "Small Web" to highlight non-commercial, individual content on the internet.
The project aims to make this type of content easily discoverable through Kagi's search results, and it features a curated list of nearly 6,000 genuine websites. The entire initiative is open-source and community-driven.

She was a prolific #author and regular speaker about the #OpenWeb, advocating for accessible and inclusive #OnlineDesign standards. Also known as "mollydotcom" after her eponymous site that was one of the first blogs, she wrote or co-wrote more than 30 books, and before falling ill she was frequently appearing on #Internet conference stages around the world.

@thisismissem yeah, Iâm sorry, I guess we are focused on a different parts of the issue.
I was a social media software engineer, and have have worked at hi5, & MySpace & other social media startups. Iâve hated Facebook and âcentralizedâ social identity from the beginning and fought hard as an engineer for 10+ years against it.
Mastodon is our real fist shot at getting away from the centralization, and it seems like the #OpenWeb has a real shot here, from a technical standpoint.
http://hamishcampbell.com/2021/05/29/misunderstanding-out-reaching-the-omn-openweb-projects/ This touches on the mess we are pushing over of our #openweb
This applies too much of our current failing on the #openweb

@benlindsay
I'm not making any judgments about the rightness or wrongness of any actions here, nor am I claiming that any two actions are "in the same category." Again, this is only a question of core values -- what you believe in, stand for, etc. If the #OpenWeb is one of your core values, then building a web app that isn't compatible with #Firefox would be a violation of your core values, so you shouldn't do it, even if someone is paying you.
Dammit my Friday afternoon was seriously buzzkilled with how long it took me to set up a clean #RSS feed for our #Drupal starter kit. It really should not be this difficult, especially given the #OpenWeb manifesto, etc. sigh.
And I wrote a freaking blog post on this subject! (Which I was referencing along the way đ )
Google has gone wrong long time ago. In pursuit of revenue and dominance, it's been betraying its core values, destroying the best of the early web: freedom, connectivity, and fun.
