I generally do weekends free of social media, but it just seems like a crucial time to keep a foot in birdland for the moment. I've been allaying general concerns Mastadon-hesitant folks have by reporting my experience. It's a work in progress, but worth the work, I hope.

I'm going to put out a general invitation to my 100ish Twitter pals and just gradually exit, I think. I'm sick of the increasing bile and falsity of #ElonsFolly and I want out.

TFG returns to birdland. I look forward to this new chapter of social media, here. There will come a time when #ElonsFolly is just another backwater scrambling for its share of team troll.

Meanwhile, truth is, in using Twitter TFG would smash his own also-ran service to smithereens - not that it's not imploding just fine, as is.

What will Mastadon need to overtake Twitter? Let's figure out what that is and get started.

"Operation Hannibal" is, of course, a statement of the purest optimism, if not grandiosity. Right now I'm sort of Hannibal on foot with no elephants, army, or proper mountaineering equipment, hoping his hashtag catches on - here and in birdland.

I think Mastadon has every tool and potential to supplant Twitter and improve on the concept. Leave the other place to the trolls, phonies, and product pimps, says I.

For a few months now, I've been taking weekends off social media, expanding that to Fri-Mon off. Facebook sort of fell out of favor, and Twitter has been leaving an increasingly bitter, bilious taste in my mouth. Helpfully, the world's wealthiest baby man is burning the place down.

I'm still checking in over there, but hoping to make the full switch, and reconstitute my Twitter pals with whomever I can lure here.
