Fun #astronomy fact I just noticed: the constellation #Ophiuchus, the "snake bearer", is named al-Hawwa (حواء) in Arabic, which is derived from (and the Arabic form of) the Hebrew proper name Heva (חוה), i.e. Eve, who, well, has a certain connection to snakes.
This appears to be a case where a loanword was adopted specifically to take advantage of a metonymic semantic shift.

If you are Sagittarius like me, you may actually be Ophiuchus, the snake handler, according to the current sun's path across the celestial sphere.

@n8chz @recursive I have not, because I have no idea what that is! 🫣 What is #Ophiuchus ?
NGC 6633
Magnitude 4.6 open cluster located 1,040 light-years away in the constellation Ophiuchus. Nearly as large as the full moon, the cluster contains 38 known stars; the brightest star is of magnitude 7.6. Its age has been estimated at 660 million years.

Magnitude 7.9 globular cluster located 20,900 light-years away in the constellation Ophiuchus. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in April 1782, then independently by William Herschel in 1793.

NGC 6572 Blue Racquetball Nebula
Magnitude 8.1 planetary nebula located in the constellation Ophiuchus. It is a young planetary nebula and only began to shed its gases a few thousand years ago. Because of this, the material is still quite concentrated, which explains the nebula's abnormal brightness.

IC 4665
Magnitude 4.2 open cluster located 1,400 light-years away in the constellation Ophiuchus. It was discovered by Philippe Loys de Chéseaux in 1745. It is one of the brightest clusters not to be cataloged by Charles Messier or William Herschel, probably because it is so loose and coarse.
