Got a Dell #OptiPlex 7040M and going to try to install #Proxmox VE with #YunoHost and maybe throw in #NixOS in the mix.

Getting late, so this is a tomorrow project. There is also #DistroBox to look into...

All this partly because I started to run out of space on my daily driver. Sooo, why not move all the data to a local server 🤣

Recently installed #EndeavourOS on an old Dell SFF #Optiplex and boy does it run smooth. Still getting acquainted with the lexicon of the distro and #Arch philosophy, overall.

Just saw that my #OptiPlex 7070 SFF features two DP connections on the back....
This makes it possible to also use that machine as my desktop in case I want to have some variety 🙂

Although I have #Solus 4.4 #Budgie installed on a #Razer 15 laptop, which updated from 4.3, I went ahead and installed Solus 4.4 #Mate on a Dell #Optiplex 755 Desktop.
Smooth as a hot knife through butter!
No issues at all.
Least I can say tonight that I actually did install 4.4 from ISO.

Chose Mate on this spare machine, so I can follow the eventual process to #Xfce out of pure interest.

Well, I need to make a plan on what I want my #homelab to do... so far it has been more or less "let's see what happens" 😂

Ich kopiere .iso-Dateien von einem #Ventoy #USB-Stick auf eine "#Micron 2450 NVMe" und verwende dazu einen #Dell #Optiplex 7090 PC mit Windows 11 - also keine "alte "Hardware.

Im Taskmanager: der USB-Stick liefert ein paar Sekunden lang Daten mit 300 MB/s und macht dann Pause. Die NVMe schreibt kurz Daten mit 300 MB/S, die Rate sinkt dann aber auf ~80 MB/s. Die NVMe ist damit für ~20 Sekunden zu 100% ausgelastet

Die #NVMe ist also langsamer als eine #Blechplatte!!!

Just ordered a new system to tinker with which will replace my current #OptiPlex 😎 (Which will do something else in the future)

A Lenovo ThinkCentre M910q Tiny, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD 😀

The system will be a light Hypervisor running a couple of little VM's to play around with in my #homelab :linux: :openbsd: :freebsd:

Can't wait for the machine to arrive 😀

* #Intel i5 3470
* 8GB RAM
* 256GB SSD

This should give me enough room to play with #k3s and #puppet.

If you don't buy an #Optiplex with the M.2 SSD option, #Dell doesn't solder the slot onto the board so you can never install one after the fact.
