Second #BritishFolkRevival 1945β69
Folk-song collecting continued after World War I.
Several individuals emerged in England who had learnt the old songs in the #OralTradition from their communities and therefore preserved the authentic versions. These individuals, such as #SamLarner, #HarryCox, #FredJordan, #WalterPardon, and #FrankHinchliffe, released albums of their own and were revered by #FolkRevivalists.
Here's one from Frank Hinchliffe

I am eager to start reading #RichardRorty's text, Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity, today. It poses an interesting argument that it is human stories and not #philosophy that gets closer to the truth of the human experience. One can imagine such an idea expands from #fiction to the #OralTradition to even musical compositions. It is my opinion that such an argument really stands strong towards facing the future with positive potential for our species. That is, if we are to survive.

This is a guslar from #Montenegro π²πͺ playing the #gusle, a one-string #fiddle used for accompanying oneself while reciting epic #poetry; often concerning heroic deeds, consisting of thousands of lines requiring days to recite fully. The #instrument is made with a (preferably) maple body covered with a skin, a short neck, and a carved head in the shape of important symbols and figures in local #folklore. The string is made from (some sources say 30 strands of) horse-hair, which may be the origin of the name (translating to "fibers").
Evidence of the gusle in #history becomes solid during the 15th century, however there are theories that older accounts from Arabic (10th century) and Byzantine sources (7th century) describe the instrument; the latter referring to a small #Slavic lyre.
The instrument is also found in #Serbia, #Albania, #Bosnia and Herzegovina, and #Croatia, and is also called lahuta.

And hereβs why I think this exchange is interesting. The bot has done what any one of us has done when a child asks us to tell it a tale we only half remember - make it up on the spot.
Does it matter that the troll eats the goats? The wolf eats Little Red Riding Hoodβs grandmother, after all, and the other wolf eats the Three Little Pigs.
Does it matter that the bot has no source? Ask a folklorist about the original Cinderella, and watch her stifle a laugh.
And when the child hears the half-remembered, half made up tale, he may pass it on to his friends, or go home and recount it for his parents, etc., etc., etc. A potential oral tradition is created on the hoof.
This is the most human exchange I have yet had with this bot, even though it readily admits it is a bot. The language is analogue human, the behaviour is analogue human. I am genuinely impressed.
