@skotchygut so my #orangepi5 finally arrived, it does seem to run hot but with an nvme drive it seems to be doing what i need it to do. Am going to add a fan once I design a mounting and #3dprint it. Currently cpu is sitting at 52C which isn’t too bad
Replaced the weird mushy thermal pad included with the Icy Tower cooler with a proper copper shim and thermal paste on my #orangepi5. Gap between the cooler and the shim is still close to half a millimeter and has now been filled with paste until I get a chance to trim the distance pieces.
Results look promising already. Stable at 45C at full load and slight OC to 2.4GHz running #linux kernel compile.
Curios how far it will go down further with proper fasteners....

So this weekend this little guy and me have work to do. Time to setup that Nomad cluster using 2 RaspberryPI 4 and OrangePI5.
Unsure about the OS, maybe I’ll try Fedora on it (I have Ubuntu and Armbian).

This is a nice Ansible playbook to provision a Sonatype OSS Nexus 3 repository as a PyPi proxy.
I must say I'm really happy with my new OrangePI5 computer. Finally got another RaspberryPI 4 on time to provision a cluster using Nomad, but I will work on that once I'm done with this article.
Now I can go and watch some trashy action movies while I wait for some feedback...

My 16GB Orange Pi 5 finally arrived last week. I didn't find a full set of instructions (and tbh, didn't look very long) for booting it off its M.2 slot, so I documented how on my blog https://unixorn.github.io/post/2023-03-boot-orange-pi-5-from-nvme/
The OPi5 humiliates the #rpi and #odroid machines in my rack for IOPS. Full benchmark in the post, but >17x FIO random write and random reads.
