Huh. Cattin is our house Gewurz. Didn't know they made an orange pinot gris. Distributor doesn't carry it. A lot of Alsatian producers are experimenting with #OrangeWine now. #Alsace #wine
@Island_Martha The Aupa Pipeno is a weird little #wine that could be called an #orangewine. They call it a #whitewine, it’s #PedroXimenez & #Pais 80/20 blend, with 4 days skin contact and the using only free run juice. It’s aged for 5 months in concrete.
It definitely has the almond and herbal character that you might want to find in a #skincontactwine but it also carries nice peach and stone fruit vibes. It’s everyday wine. Porch pounder. Toss it in the cooler wine.
Cheers!

'China's New Wave of Natural Wine: Adversity has sparked diversity for China's winemakers, with niche wines emerging in what was a very traditional wine market."
My article in Wine Searcher.
In sum, Chinese wines became more diverse during the COVID era, driven by global inspiration, local ambition and economic necessity.

8000-year-old wines! Made a clip of all the Georgian wines I tasted in China this past year, most of them from the amber / orange / skin-contact category.
And including producers such as Askaneli Brothers, Anapea Village, Baia, Barbale and Casreli.
In a country with such a long alcohol history--the oldest known site in China dates to about 9000 years ago and involved blending rice, honey and fruit--the story of Georgia resounds. And it is fun to see so many wineries experimenting with amphora / skin-contact wine here.
All of the wines in this video are available from importer Georgia Selections. Also see the website winesgeorgia.com for more info about Georgia's wine scene.

There are very few wines that epitomizes the Mediterranean Spring on a late afternoon like Acapulpa by La Despeinada (Alex and Petra). Made with 100% #Moscatell, this natural orange wine is a symphony that fills your nostrils with the heady aromas of flowering orchards, buzzing bees, a dream full of light and the fragrance of crushed warm pine needles. Acapulpa is a wine that you are drinking before it touches your lips, an ode to a world in balance, a journey in to the wild that sets you free.

Please help: I'm looking for an amphora/qvevri-made skin-contact wine with notes of (1) flint or smoke, (2) earth and (3) rose petal or flowers. All three.
Preferably Greece or Georgia. All the better if the soil is volcanic. #orangewine

Torn cabbage
Mouth numbing Mapo tofu
And Shanghai rice cakes.
For me the most delicious was the cabbage, and texturally the most satisfying...the rice cakes. I enjoyed the Mapo tofu because it made the flavors fun and made the wine taste different because of the Szechuan pepper or Mala pepper which numbs the tongue.
I love all these flavors. When I came in I was super tired and then after eating I felt energized, and I remembered the same feeling in Chengdu. The food always left me feeling energized and in a state of 'food high.'

So here we go: #orangewine 100% #Macabeu from #Rasquera. Pinyolet Vinyaters. Labels only tell you 0.1% of the story, it's all in the content. A "brisat" as we say here in #Catalunya for orange wines: some serious maceration, indigenous yeast, and letting the grape mature to perfect ripeness (it takes nerves like in high noon). This wine is pure joy. Depth, flower petals, roses tossed over enchiladas. Totally addictive when married with slices of long cured JamĂłn. One bottle will never be enough.

Nothing gives me greater joy than buying natural #wine directly from source. Here is Alex from La Despeinada checking the evolution of a Garnatxa picked from the upper fields around his finca in Bot, Terra Alta.

Georgia. Where winemaking was perfected. A primer on the cradle of winemaking and some notes on a bunch of wines I recently tasted. #orangewine #8000vintages https://www.vinography.com/2022/12/the-ancient-taste-notes-on-some-georgian-wines
Back to #wine with this 6è, an #ecological 100% Moscatell of 2021 from Celler 9+.
Handpicked from old vines, made using indigenous yeast and undergoing some serious skin maceration (32 days to be precise), this naturally filtered wine results in one of the most gastronomically complex Muscatells I have ever tasted.
Its scent is the olfactory symphony which enters your nostrils on a late spring afternoon in the wild: touches of camomile, lemon blossoms, rosemary, time, a predominant peach, all carried by the salty wind of the sea. When you first drink it it leaves you with the sensation of having eaten feta cheese dipped in honey and peach jelly; a citrusy finish wrapped up in well integrated tannins for that extra sensorial layer.
One to savour with crispy deep fried seafood or tempura.

This biodynamic wine is made from old, ungrafted vines of Aspro Potamisi on the island of Tunis, by Frenchman Jerome Binda of Domaine de Kalathas. He says "I function with intuition, bel
ieving that one needs to learn from his own mistakes. So I go a lot with my heart, I use a little bit of SO2 like 15 mg total and I experiment a lot" #orangewine :orangewine: https://www.instagram.com/p/CfgNqDftwo-/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=
At dinner at Krasi last night, we ordered two bottles of Greek orange wine, from rare indigenous grapes I had never tasted before: 2020 Pontiglio Winery Lianoroiodo Kakotrygus and 2019 Sant'Or Amphora Santameriana. Both were delicious, intriguing and great with food. The Sant'Or was the funkier of the two, with strong tannins and lots of savory notes, while the Pontiglio was brighter, with strong citrus notes, along with a savory aspect. #greekwine #wine #orangewine
