Had to set up a new Mac with something for low-key #dockercompose needs. Trying #orbstack now. Looks nice, seems fast, most importantly installed without a hitch. Has a nice built-in volume browser (mounts those into Finder).

I’m now test driving the OrbStack as a Docker replacement. So far so good. Lot will depend on the final pricing after Beta period. Importantly I would be willing to pay provided some reasonable plan exists for a single developer. #OrbStack #Docker

I'm testing out #OrbStack for #Docker as a replacement for Docker Desktop - it *feels* faster but I haven't done any real comparison because it broke my Docker Desktop configuration so I can't switch between the two now. I guess I'll stick to OrbStack for now 🤣

It's gonna be paid once it's out of beta but maybe it'll remain free for personal usage 🤞

I stopped Docker for Mac and launched OrbStack, recreated my containers, and it all just worked. Seems like a drop-in replacement.

I'm surprisingly impressed at the out of the box use of #orbstack. Just downloaded it because I saw they support easy VM creation as well as the container runtime and it's quite nifty. Local nixos box ready to be configured in a minute or so. Not #opensource it looks like, but neither is docker desktop, and the last time I tried colima, it didn't work so well for me. I'm sure it doesn't support advanced virtualization config, but it might be fine for my use cases. Will report if feedback changes

#OrbStack looks nice, unfortunately it is proprietary software but it isn't dealbreaker for me
