Just opened! The petals of Phrag. longifolium v. hincksianum will continue to lengthen after opening, like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis.

Another orchid in bloom this week. This is Holcovanstylis Ping Pong, a nicely fragrant complex hybrid. This plant is definitely on one end of the genetic scale for this cross - most of them are white with many pink spots and a solid hot pink lip.

Another new jewel that came in on Monday. I've had Macodes petola in the house before, but this one is at a more mature, stable age. Many jewel orchids seem to be particularly fragile until they reach the age where they're pushing up a second growth.

A new jewel orchid at my house! This Anoectochilus albo-lineatus has deep green velvet leaves with glittering copper veins and a very appealing ripple to the leaf edges. The flower is supposed to be unusually large for a jewel orchid, and is frilly! Has a second growth starting, which is usually a good sign of health.

My first tray of orchids grown from deflask to blooming — Sarcochilus ceciliae. This is a miniature to small sized lithophyte native to Australia; the parents of this batch have strongly pink flowers and the buds on the one spike in this batch are promising the same. The flowers bloom in sequence and a single spike can remain in bloom for several months.
I love the almost succulent leaves that grow straight and in regular fans, not as haphazard as some Sarcochilus.
