Working on a draft of a story where #goblins / #orcs who lack gender dymorphism are primarily speaking in a #language without any gendering, considering the pros and cons of various ways to avoid using gendered #pronouns.

Like, Kletchka and Grhul are female, and Shoruk and Tulkan are male, and this isn't like a secret or a twist or anything, but none of them would refer to each other in those terms, because the language they speak doesn't have #gender.

While most goblins engage in the traditional spirit and ancestor worship which defined their civilization, #orcs reportedly find themselves distanced from this.

They are not goblins, they do not know their goblin ancestors, They lack the connection which the baseline Goblins from whom they were originally created have to the spirit world and spirituality in general.

It is one of the great tragedies of orc life: orcs may never feel fully integrated in the societies they defend.

The program from which they were created took decades, and while various notes have been found on the process, they seem to require inscrutably advanced knowledge of goblin anatomy, biochemistry, and magical principle to even decipher. This is something I want to write about with this #Fantasy setting, especially the #Orcs: eventually, every #war, no matter how brutal, will be over, and we will all have to deal with the consequences of what was done, even if it had to be done. Behind every enemy is someone we will inevitably have to or reconcile with some day.

I think #SpeculativeFiction is a great vessel for exploring things like that.

I've been told that my #DarkFantasy setting reminds people of #WarHammer, especially the #Orcs, and I can see that: there are definitely strong parallels with city worlds and #SpaceMarines.

The difference is that the War is over, and the Hammer is the Orcs, in desperate need of an endless supply of nails.

I find the question of "What do we do with the #soldiers when the war is over?" to be far more interesting, and relevant, then the #war itself.

Late on Friday, June 23, 2023, Wagner Group mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin released a video on Telegram purportedly showing the aftermath of a Russian Defense Ministry missile attack against his fighters at a “rear base.” In a series of audio clips, Prigozhin subsequently announced that he would lead an armed campaign to “punish” the Defense Ministry officials supposedly responsible for the attack. Prigozhin insists that he is waging a “march of justice,” not a coup, but the FSB soon announced a criminal case to investigate his “incitement to armed insurrection.”
