Question to the . Has anyone seen quartz veins that look like this?
This has been previously described as a mineralizated qrtz vein, but for the life of me I have never seen a quartz vein that texturally looked like this. Texturally it looks more like a melt to me, note the incorporated clasts of host rock on the right, and the irregular almost podiform nature of the 'vein' (see second image). However, it only contains quartz and calcite...

Great visit to the mine last week. The largest Pb-zn (Ge) mine in Austria, consistently worked for 700 years until the 1980s! Really impressed and excited by the sizes of the waste rock dumps, and their potential to be a modern source of Ge. Neat to see medieval workings and the way that they worked the ore seams back then. (# 1 waste rock pile, # 2 underground ore face from a moder working, # 3 mined out ore seam in a medieval adit).

Sometimes I feel more like a soil scientist when I go mine waste sampling 😂.
Where is a lovely profile through a oxidation horizon in a tailings pile we dug. The green layer you see is mostly malachite/random copper oxihydroxides.

Introduction. Was never a Twitter user, but want to show my support for a non musk alternative. I'm a faculty member @MontanuniversitätLeoben in with a focus on overlooked sources of precious and technology critical metals . I'll mostly be using this to post pretty field photos 😁
