Finished my illustration of illecebrosa taking off from someones finger. Eyespots are known for this species and would have acted a a predator deterrent. This species also had a proboscis for feeding on nectar.

Happy .
More this week; this is illecebrosa, about to take off from someone's hand.
If you look closely, you can see that the front pair of legs are raised up; this is something with all (or most) lacewings do before taking off. Smaller species will spring into the air using their back legs, but larger ones will flap and gently lift off.
This is a pen sketch which I'll be colouring digitally.

Monday morning illustration.... this is only the unfinished outline, but I like the way it's looking so far.
This is illecebrosa, a species with a roughly 12cm wingspan and eyespotted wings from the Formaton of China.
The kalligrammatids were a family of butterfly-like lacewings from the which are thought to have been some of the primary pollinators of some .
