A few things that U.S. historians know that are worth emphasizing for the general public:

1. Many of the earliest and most prominent originalists were slave owners who made originalist arguments to protect slavery.

2. They invoked the Bible and antiquity in their apologias.

3. That you can find northern originalists and anti-slavery Christians does not imo diminish 1 & 2.
