Yesterday morning, about 04:45, an #Amsel (i.e. a #Blackbird but not the North American one, that is a different species) perched on our balcony (4. Etage). He didn't sing, he gave an address. There were full-on sentences, even paragraphs. It went on for several minutes, quite possibly five minutes. It really was like he was speaking, not singing, but speaking. I have never heard a bird do this before (full disclosure, I am a #bird fan). It was *not* a song, or a bird-song, in any way. It was a speech. A declaration I think. Has anyone experienced anything like this? #Ornithology answers from #Ornithologists are most welcome

So adding to previous posts about #PhotoEditing nightmares, #ornithologists like to change the names of, like, half the species every 10 years.
I'm not kidding, in the 2011 the American Ornithology Something decided that a bird in North America and an identical bird in Europe were completely different species and now have a new common name as well.
It's like if the IAU had not only demoted Pluto, they renamed it Mickey.

Do we have any #ornithologists here who can help me identify this new garden #bird visitor? Google lens came up with #GrayCatbird but apparently that would be rather rare for Devon, UK. It flashed a small crest (just caught at the end of the video). Hard to see markings but a screenshot with increased contrast shows them a little. Some variety of #Warbler maybe? My little book wasn’t much help 🤷🏼‍♀️

A little #Color early in the morning. Out for a pre-dawn hike at #OxleyNatureCenter and surprised to see #Cardinals feasting on the #Soapberry fruits. Those are normally claimed by #CedarWaxwings, but I guess there are some that are just ripening. Saw a #Pelican with something wrapped around its ankle. The bird is obviously in pain, but is able to fish and fly. The #Ornithologists indicated that unless the injury threatened flight or feeding, they could not intervene. It would be very stressful to try to capture the bird. I will simply monitor the bird for any changes in behavior to see if intervention is needed.
