I get why this is the sort of story #scicomm publications want to run with, but it's really not a meaningful question in #linguistics, and trying to make it more answerable by basing #language age on #languages with #writing is not the greatest message as it implies that many of those unwritten #endangeredlanguages they mention have less value.

I studied Koine Greek for five years, and I’ve often wondered if Greek people ever think about how beautiful their language is when written, or if it’s just “normal” to them, since it’s what they grew up with. I just love the shapes and flow of the letters. And having two forms of lowercase sigma, based on where it occurs in a word, is pretty cool.
I think "minuet" as used here is a #typo that was meant to be "minute", but somehow it still works for me as "minuet".

Should I start a new Tumblr blog for my alternate English orthography so I'm not tempted to litter all my socials with it? Probably. 😐

Word Of The Day 4/25/23 is #Orthography.
Orthography (noun) - to correct spelling; the art of writing words with the proper letters according to standard usage.
While playing Quordle, I noticed the following fun set of presumably unrelated English words
come /kʌm/, but comet /kɔmɪt/
cove /kov/, but covet /kʌⱱɪt/
Not a hugely exciting observation, by any means, but it amused me enough to post this!

@kaminenmosher Haven't had to deal with this for a long time so not sure if it's what they do now, but Oxford used to prescribe the z for some -ize endings in British English where others preferred -ise. To be determined by linguistic root of the word I think, but maybe someone with actual expertise will elucidate.

If your gait is wobbly because you've just made an ass of yourself in a barfight, are you walking wobblyly or wobblily? Spellcheck doesn't like either, and I would like to instruct it in correctness.
