The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted searches at the premises of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's political advisor Vinod Verma and an Officer on Special Duty (OSD). Responding to the ED's action, CM Baghel in a post on X said, "Respected Prime Minister and Mr. Amit Shah! Thank you very much for the priceless gift you have given me on my birthday by sending ED to my political advisor, OSD and close aides."

It's OK for a new category of thing to need a new definition for open. It's not OK to erode hard won consensus on a term of art like open source.

Yesterday at #NBPy we celebrated 25 years of open source and @osi, and their stewarding the Open Source Definition... especially as over-capitalized opportunists try to bank on the cachet of "open source" without delivering its promises.

Today, I'm reading an article carrying water for those same opportunists. Frustrating.

Kunden der Ostsächsischen #Sparkasse #Dresden (#OSD) können jetzt mit ihrem Handy am Automaten Geld abheben. Auf dem Smartphone muss dazu bei Android-Handys die Sparkassen-App "Mobiles Bezahlen" installiert sein, bei iPhones reicht das "Apple Wallet", teilte die OSD mit. Die Sparkassen-Karte sei dann beim Geldabheben nicht mehr erforderlich.

GNOME 42 is Getting Redesigned Volume/Brightness Pop Ups

Redesigned on-screen bubbles, the sort that appear when you tap the volume or brightness buttons on your keyboard, are in the works for GNOME 42. Right now, OSD bubbles in GNOME Shell look a lot like this: GNOME devs consider the current implementation to be a little larger than necessary. And looking at the screenshot above it’s not an unfair assessment. Although macOS still uses big boxy pop-ups when a user bashes the volume, brightness, etc key both Windows 11 and ChromeOS use modestly sized OSDs. Those are just as useful as GNOME’s incumbent toasts but don’t obscure as much :sys_more_orange:

Still no news on #OSD (Open Source Design) clearly endorsing use of Free Software. "Ethical Design" https://2017.ind.ie/ethical-design/ by comparison is a big step ahead by mentioning Free Software in the very first paragraph as a human right. OSD seems not to see a problem in using proprietary design tools when designing FOR "open source". What a pity.
