We would not be able to run our events without our wonderful volunteer judges. These judges review the submitted intelligence from our contstant and give feedback as needed. There is no cost to participate as a judge.

We will open up our Call for Judges on Friday, January 27th. This is the day before event tickets go on sale.

The call for judges will be a Google Form, and we will review this and get you set up. Most that apply are accepted.

All judges will need to review a pre-recorded judge briefing, and we may make a new one to update everyone.

We are also announcing when our event time will be:

Our TraceLabs Global OSINT Search Party will run from Noon-4pm EST

We will likely pre-record a required contestant briefing for you to watch.

Awards are typically announced an hour after the event ends, at 5pm EST.

Feel free to convert to your local time to participate remotely from anywhere. We do have a future event in mind for those where this time might not be best.

Come join us in our Discord: tracelabs.org/discord

More info on what our search party entails, as well as Judge and Contestant Guides (which have been updated for the new categories and guidelines from Aug 2022 but might need another refresh) can be found here

We are happy to announce when we will sell tickets for the next TraceLabs Global OSINT Search Party!

We will be selling the tickets on Saturday, Jan 28th. These will be sold on Eventbrite, and specific times they are available will be announced closer to the sale date.
Contestant tickets are typically $20. We will be setting up a team-matching channel as we get closer to ticket sales. This is the best spot to form your team if you still need members. We will not assign teams, and people can participate in groups of 1-4.

Mark you calendar and spread the word! Also stand by here for more event announcements!

We are happy to announce our next CTF (Search Party)!

If you are a fan of owls, particularly of superb owls, we will be having our next TraceLabs OSINT Search Party on Saturday, 11 Feb. Just before the Superb Owl Sunday.

We will be putting out more information on what work needs to be done and any calls for volunteers. We will have the standard call for judges, but we may also have calls for other roles such as reporting.

All are welcome to participate (owl fan or not), more details will be released over the coming weeks. Mark you calendar and spread the word!

Quick breakdown:
I grew up in the KCMO “punk” scene. Great for getting into tattooing & first-hand experiences of going toe-to-toe with RaHoWannabes neo-nazis showing up at shows. The ‘90s were rough, but “zero tolerance” kept those dudes hiding in their basements… until recently because of our passivity. Big oops on that one shrug.
(those clips of some “antifa” punching some alt-right dude looks comparably like a slow Tuesday)

So keeping an eye on bigoted buttholes has been one way to help keep my family, friends, and community safer. (throw me any questions about the far-right and I’ll inundate your “toot” thread with so much info that you’ll turn into a bit of a shwarzseher like myself)

I’m older now. I do sorta miss it, but can’t brawl like I used to (and don’t need that police record).
In the early `00’s I was the go-to dude of the peers for finding anything & everything on the internet. Then 10 years ago I realized I that these google-skills to keep an eye on RWE. 5 years ago I read the term “OSINT” and realized that was what I’d been doing all along.
And I feel like I make a much bigger impact than I ever did in punch up at a beer-soaked oi! or hardcore show.

On a side note, while it made it slightly easier to track, I have noticed that the CVE space is filled with people that are great with the nerdery, but there’s sometimes a lack of really understanding of the IRL part. Probably due to time spent knee deep in spreadsheets of shitposts, but rarely having to be face-to-face with what they’re looking at.

Regardless, supposedly I can even turn all of that *waves hands in at the previous paragraphs* into a career of sorts. So I’m working on that. As in, I’ve put a lot of that research on hold to learn the infosec/cybersecurity/webdev ropes.
But I still draw & do analog tattoos alongside the digital designs. I’ll try throwing the tech-related art up here as it comes.

(For opsec reasons, I've always tried to stay mum about some things I get involved with, but if it helps I have an old Quora account (from before it also devolved into a maga-dumping ground) with some old answers that may give an inkling as to what I mean. quora.com/profile/Geoph-MacKan )

So looks like I'm here.
Apologies for the long-winded. I am super stoked to not be limited to screeds crammed into a few 280-character strings. Thank y’all for being here, but you also shoulder some of the blame for the 11000 character limit that I will exploit with impunity.
