@carnage4life @hunterwalk Nor do they need to be. As an #oss creator (with a good patron), I've had a good living, got my kids through college and I should be able to retire.

Not VC capital, no billions in revenue, but I've been able to spend my adult life doing things I love.

Society should embrace this sort of creator outcome imo.

Here’s my open source status update for August, in which we get a couple of chonker PRs merged, setting us up for our downhill run towards finishing assets support, also now tracked in a handy dandy GitHub proejct.

- my blog (k3d+#istio+hugo)
- my vpn/adblocker (tailscale + #adguardhome on #rpi4 running #nixos)
- my music collection (navidrome on rpi4)
- local #llm (mix of vps, local vm, still experimenting here)

I also have an #oss smartwatch that I patched here and there, and were selfhosting my #mastodon instance for a few weeks.

I really enjoy the fact I can customize all this to my liking and having this kind of #privacy

I need to add/update contribution guidelines for some #oss i'm maintaining.

Can anyone point me to a good example of contribution guidelines ? What I would like is to have something that clearly advertised that any contribution will be under the same licence as the library ?

With all critics on ads and tracking in the browser and US government initiative on secure apps stack, I see no other way then create an #OSS browser as a platform. Capable of #DeclarativeWebApplication embedding, approved apps policies enforcement as on browser settings as on user level.

I doubt JS based apps could give such security layer as declarative stack would.

Do NOT tell OSS maintainers that project names need to be work safe or you can't use them at work.

It annoys me how entitled these posts are. Maintaining #OSS is hard work and is "powered by" having fun and making something good. If your work requirements don't line up with that - too bad. Alternatively, get your employer to support the project - financially, dev time, hardware, whatever. *Then* you'll have a leg to stand on. Until then, politely accept the maintainers' response and shut up.

#UK publishes update to Digital, Data and Technology Playbook setting out key policies and guidance for how digital projects and programs are assessed, procured and delivered in government.

One key policy reform is to be open and use #OSS whenever possible.

“Software should be #OpenSource and allow access in a platform-agnostic way.” In addition to open source, the guidelines also recommend using open standards for government data and technology.
