It's because of this that any critical examination of their narratives seems only to strengthen them. Trudeau's 'fringe' speech stepped into the exact same trap as Clinton's 'deplorables' speech in the US, inflaming their supporters to the point of wearing the title with pride.

While people like Bergen and Poilievre at federal level should be held accountable for their support for the antidemocratic occupation, that attempt would likely backfire.

Near the top of Canada's enemies list are "radical leftists" - in quotes because the term is never fully defined. They have used hyperbole and disinformation for decades to foster mistrust of both 'liberals' and 'Liberals' to the point of dehumanization. To their base, everything Trudeau does is seen through this lens. He's an enemy of the state whose every word brings us ever-closer to reeducation camps and... forced abortion, or something.

The #CPC is not the party Mulroney or Clarke once led - a line I see blurred in the media all the time, despite their platforms being so radically different. From the onset, it was clear the Reform / Alliance / CPC ran in parallel the radicalization of the GOP in the US. With the language and tactics of White Christian Nationalism the party's entire ideology is now based on fear - our country under constant threat by external and internal actors.

There's nothing stopping Parliament from calling for an inquiry for any reason. Maybe getting into the realm of fantasy here, it would be brilliant if there were an inquiry into the use of mis- and disinformation by political parties / politicians. Conservatives have been outright lying for decades now - stoking fear into hysteria - particularly on their fundraising channels.

But it's a tricky game to play and one that could make things worse.

For example, recommendation #53 calls for more 'study' into the impact of social media as it relates to mis- and disinformation. I feel that 'study' could be extremely valuable to Canadians if it were to be done using the same format as the EA inquiry.

Given that Russia's propaganda campaigns get honourable mention (6.2, 17.1) it's important that everybody who engages with social media understands this stuff, not just those in government.
