#TodayInHistory Otto Hahn along with Fritz Strassmann discovers nuclear fission in 1938, when the split the nucleus of uranium, releasing a large amount of energy. This would be the foundation for the concept of nuclear energy, for which Hahn would receive the Nobel in 1944.

His discovery of nuclear fission, led to the creation of an entirely new field of nuclear chemistry. And it would be the basis for nuclear reactors and weapons later on.
