I believe Netflix has “Live Up to Your Name” which is also good - but time travels between Joseon & current time.

If you get Viki, “Our Blooming Youth” is great - set in Joseon era, but it focuses on a mystery. And then there’s “Hwarang”! Search #OurBloomingYouth & #Hwarang here for more info.

Sungyunkwan Scandal is on my Park Min Young Quest. I haven’t watched it yet, but it was one of her early lead roles.

I don’t know much of Joseon history yet, but “Our Blooming Youth” did have the Left & Right State Court Ministers building their own power bases and manipulating the court & the king. I wonder if those correlate at all to the political parties of the time? It had a great mystery too.

I completely agree with you about Pyo Ye-jin, both in Our Blooming Youth & What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. I haven’t watched Taxi Driver yet, so I don’t know her role there. I will be on the lookout for her work.

@s1m0n4 I would agree that I would have liked to see all the romances more fully played out - I think the sergeant and princess, the servant and teacher, and the prince and his love. I like a more definite ending, but the I also think the writers are stuck in a quandry. If they pick an ending that doesn't align with the audience's feelilngs, then they complain. By leaving these things ambiguous, everyone gets to imagine their own happy ending. I would have loved to have seen at least a couple more episodes showing how everyone ended up living happily ever after. Still gets a 10 out of 10 stars from me because in my imagination, the ending is wonderful.

Just finished my first historical k-drama and I'm still totally in love with Park Hyng-sik (shhh don't tell my husband!). I found the unfolding of clues a bit slow and then everything was rushed in episodes 17 to 20.

More than the female lead actress, I appreciated Pyo Ye-jin's performance (Ga-ram). She was already remarkable in #whatswrongwithsecretarykim and she absolutely deserves a lead role!

Another one I'm sad to see end. I will miss the characters. It was fantastic. Even as a mystery, it will be a rewatch for me. The acting is stellar. The twists were unexpected. There is a complicated mystery with political intrigue, friendships, comedy, romance and some action. It’s a commentary on trust, the importance of friends, social injustices and how they can drive people to do things they wouldn't normally, on women's voices, and how powerful people will do anything to maintain their power.

I am so thrilled with this show!! The mystery is great so far and the main romance reminds me of “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” - Park Hyung-sik is so talented at falling in love without realizing it!

I love the strong women and statements about women’s empowerment in this show. It’s sad that a character has to be a eunuch rather than a woman just to have a voice - and that it is still true in many case now. It also has beautiful friendships.

Trying to savor it, but I don’t know if I have the willpower.

I haven’t started “Our Blooming Youth” yet - I’ve got to finish up “Heavenly Idol” first.

But I know I will finish OBY and will enjoy because Park Hyung-sik is my bias - I like everything he’s in. 😉

My daily intake of Kdrama is rather low at the moment.
Starting with Alchemy Of Souls -Light & Shadow episode 6, 2th time.
It is intens and does not mix well with watching same time a contrasting , modern drama for balance, which I usually do.

And now I found "Our Blooming Youth" , Kdrama 2023 20 episodes.
Only 4 episodes out now, watched 20 minutes of it.
Fast pacing but not too. And exciting enough to wait for it. First AoS !
