Power, corruption and lies: the TV show that could teach Keir Starmer a lot about being bold | Jonathan Freedland #OurFriendsInTheNorth https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/sep/01/tv-keir-starmer-tory-labour-bbc-drama-our-friends-in-the-north?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Cultural (loose use of the term) completions of 2023 so far:
#StarTrek films (First through Generations, courtesy of @channel4).

Verdicts:
Star Trek acting improved (mostly) but plots deteriorated.
Our Friends in the North had very strong acting performances but again, some plot holes.
A lot going on in both and I'm glad I finished them, but I don't think I'd revisit either.

Is anyone watching/recently watched the BBC drama#OurFriendsInTheNorth ?
I saw it when it was first broadcast but I don’t recall any details from 1996. Am absolutely loving it now, and watch, open-mouthed, at the correlation between Britain (?England) then and now. Corrupt politicians, corrupt police - surely not?
Interesting to see Bond (Daniel Craig) looking old, haggard and ugly as duck. Like a fine wine, age has improved him!
