I do enjoy a good curmudgeon. A good artistic iconoclast. A ribald contrarian goat who has no fucks to give and makes interesting, if perhaps troubling creations. Chalk it up to my lifelong love of underground comics (comix) and outsider art.
I do not have many good things to say of art that isn't outsider. I tend to shrug and move along, rather than bashing. but gimme those warts and ugly bastards any day over a sanitized, safe piece of junk.

the saddest to me was the wire works they found in the trash in philadelphia that are now "big hits". did they even try to find the artist?? i bet that person would be beyond thrilled to know that their works are selling!

Volgens mij wordt er in de kunstwereld (ook muziek,film,literatuur etc) veel te veel status gegeven aan succes.
Je moet eerst succes hebben, voor je meer succes kunt hebben, enzoveurt enzoveurts. Dat schept rare verhoudingen, waar ik (en ik denk veel meer mensen) tegen aanlopen. Buitensluiting van 'succes' door anderen, omdat je als teveel of als een bedreiging wordt ervaren.
Ik heb dat letterlijk mogen ondervinden trouwens, o.a. bij een organisatie waar de schrijver van dit stuk ook bij betrokken is (maar niet door zijn toedoen, dat wil ik even nadrukkelijk vermelden, hij weet wsl niet eens wat er gebeurt is).
Het is ingewikkeld sowieso, en helemaal als je niet hebt kunnen studeren.
