Many early cockroaches exhibited long #ovipositors (posterior organ for egg-laying), but by the #Cretaceous those had mainly been lost.

Li, and Huang​ (2023) describe #fossil cockroaches from the Cretaceous that still have this feature. They speculate that shifts in plant diversity (less gymnosperms, more angiosperms) contributed to the demise of "long-tailed" cockroaches and that these fossils were some of the last of this group.
