Apologise to anyone using my #relay (relay.intahnet.co.uk).
I was doing some general updates on my #ovirt cluster and ended up breaking everything.
After a lot of pain and headaches, I've fixed my cluster, and my relay is also back up and running. #relayadmin
Things I appreciate about #redhat
In 2008 #redhat bought a company called Qumranet (they'd just had a little thing called KVM merged into the #linux kernel the year before). They also had some proprietary products. #redhat open sourced it all and sponsored a number of related projects. I appreciate #redhat for their role in #kvm #spice #ovirt #libvirt #virtmanager and saving us from having to choose between Citrix Xen and VMWare.

When #RedHat killed #CentOS, I pretty much moved almost all my personal servers to #Fedora.
The only ones left are my #oVirt nodes and the oVirt engine VM, but I'm thinking to switch to Proxmox or XCP-NG anyway.
I do like oVirt mainly because of its API, but I've had a lot of issues with it as well.

I'm going to move my lab from #ovirt to #XCPng.
I had to upgrade the disks in my storage server tough in order to free up some space as Ovirt is currently using iSCSI, and the iSCSI Zvol is taking up all the space.
I'm still debating if I should use iSCSI or NFS for XCP-Ng, but regardless, I need some free space to move the VMs out from the Ovirt zvol, into whatever storage type I use for XCP-Ng.
Spent the last few weeks migrating our stack from #vmware to #nutanix #ahv. Went really smoothly except for a few bumps related to our directory servers running server 2022.
Cant help but feel like the product is just a very simplified (even at times dumbed down) #ovirt / #rhv - which was what we were originally going to migrate to before #redhat said the product was end of life.
Maybe simple will be good. At least it's not vmware

#homelab time! What are you rocking out with for personal production, hacking, and hobby fun? This can be anything, from a single #raspberrypi to a bajillion Tbps networked ♾️U rack in your closet (super jealous if you have that). I'll start:
* #oVirt virtualization cluster:
- 2x Dell 3060s
- 1x HP Z workstation
* Cisco Catalyst 3750G
* #pfSense #firewall
* ⚠️ no dedicated NAS ⚠️
I use the cluster for work (test VMs/infra) and fun, like cert generation and a self-hosted #Gitea instance.

I have been wondering FOR MONTHS why oVirt doesn't support shared direct attach SAS storage such as the HPE MSA2040. MS and VMWare both do it...
Now, after going down the GFS2/OCFS2 rabbit hole, I learn it's been there all along. Because what oVirt calls "Fibre Channel", apparently doesn't mean Fibre Channel. It means "any shared block device that's not iSCSI".
🤯
I want my wasted brain cycles and googling time back! 😠

I really wish #ovirt had a Fedora version of the hosted engine appliance.
Without any sensible reason for it, I just prefer #Fedora Server over #CentOS Stream. I think my reasons are a bit petty, and bitterness towards the whole CentOS situation.
It seems like you can't even use Rocky Linux (or Fedora) as the OS for ovirt compute nodes, as it tries to pull packages that are only available in CentOS Stream.
What a crap day. Too many things going wrong.
First my colo'ed TrueNAS server decided to have a melt down and became unavailable, and brought down my #ovirt cluster
Managed to resolve that with the help of the people at the data center.
Then, one of the nodes in the cluster became completely unresponsive. Its not responding on the iDRAC or anything.
I think I will have to go to the datacenter to sort it out.
A 512 *byte* virtual machine. Mind blown.

Trying to figure out how to get Fedora CoreOS VMs provisioned on my #ovirt cluster using #terraform. I can't figure out how to do the network configuration using ignition 😓
@dark4rest Last weekend, I rebuilt my #ovirt cluster using multipath iSCSI. It's only 2x1G ethernet, with 4x1TB spinning disks, but man it's working so much better. Though, I've almost run out of disk space already. 😅
Yesterday evening, I was trying to setup #ovirt, but having very little success. I'm not too sure why it's not working to be honest :(
