Ever since OVO took over SSE, customer service has nosedived.
A couple of weeks ago, I cancelled my SSE Home Services cover insuring electrical wiring in our home. the advisor confirmed it was cancelled with nothing more to pay.
Then I received a letter telling me to pay an outstanding balance of less than £5 or they’d start debt collection proceedings. No prior warning, just straight to threats.
When I phoned to pay, I was told there is nothing to pay.
What an utter shambles. #SSE #OVO

I was amazed to discover that when SSE / OVO grabbed some needed positive press a few months back saying the were suspending debt repayments from customers via pre pay meters due to the cost of living crisis it was a lie.

Looks like the time has come for me to take OVO energy to OFGem over their failure to respond to my letters or deal with my complaints. And time to take them to the ICO for failing to respond to my subject access request. #OVO Energy are the shittest provider in the UK, with probably the worst customer services. I asked to speak to a manager or supervisior and they said that they refuse to take calls even when they are complaints. And they say that because they took over SSE, they don't have to honour agreements made between SSE and its customers, such as reading meters every three months. Avoid OVO like the plague. If you are with them, switch somewhere else. And complain about them to energy regulator.

How can this be legal? SSE/OVO entered home to change meter while occupants were out. There was a child & a 96 yr old living at this address left with no heating during last weeks minus temperatures. Appalling.

Weird. I have an iPhone 6+ with an OVO (Optus) SIM; swapped it for my wife's spare ZTE Blade Android that used a Telstra SIM but was unlocked. She hates Android with a passion (don't @ me).

I put my OVO SIM in the ZTE and it refused to make or receive phone calls. The data side of things worked perfectly – Internet, SMS, MMS, etc. so the IMEA registered via the SIM in the network OK – just no phone calls in or out. If it wasn't for the fact that SMS/MMS worked, I would think that the number wasn't accepted. 🤷‍♂️

Switched to our failsafe – an ancient iPhone 5 – and everything works as expected. Guess I'm stuck with that now. A shame, 'cause I kinda prefer Android.

Still, the old iPhone 5 works well as a phone and is nice and solid, if a bit small. 🫤

I'm checking our electricity and gas use daily (easy on the OVO app) as our first generation smart meters automatically send a reading every day. Even making savings, the cost is way more than last year. If you're not doing this you could be in for a shock.
