Primarily it's me. I write the stories I want to read, that haven't been written yet.

But also, people who are like me. In particular, #lgbtqia+ readers, gender and sexual minorities. #ownvoices

Oh, and grown-ups please. My writing is definitely not suitable for minors.

Left of centre, escapist & epic #fantasy-loving, #nonbinary, #aromantic & #asexual #ownvoices appreciating, kick arse female character loving, teenage to forty-something-ish and young at heart people.

Also, anyone who likes fantasy big on platonic friendships, found family & not dependent on sexual themes (or romantic ones). (Aka me 😁)

My #Nanowrimo project this year won't leave my head. I keep having to jot down vibes and nuggets not to forget. This will be a difficult project for me, but while it scares me, I'm also growing excited about it. It'll include #OwnVoices migraine representation in the main character. The migraines themselves will be challenging, but then adding in #fantasy and #pirate elements, hopefully I'll be able to show the frustration & annoyance of migraine #disability without annoying readers too much.

@notTheAudience I saw a rec for this somewhere and am really glad I did before my ku runs out! It's also got #OwnVoices disability rep. (Also a few proofing errors but nothing too terrible.)

@Fragglemuppet I really loved Becky Chambers’ two Monk and Robot books for this. I also enjoyed Rebecca Yaros’ The Fourth Wing (though I did agree with some of the critiques of ableism in the narrative, and I would have stopped reading if the author wasn’t an #ownvoices writer - I am willing to hold space for a disabled author engaging a ‘power through the pain’ fantasy, but not for a normatively abled author doing the same).

Really impressed by Julie Duffy's response to - and rebuke to - an unfortunately popular kneejerk misreading of #ownvoices, sensitivity readers, and increasing diversity in writing/publishing.

She does a nuanced, compassionate, and extremely no-nonsense job of explaining these things on a 101 level as a white writer speaking to other white writers, which of course may be all that gets through to SOME PEOPLE I COULD THINK OF (and maybe some you could think of too).

When your book is described as "unique", you never know if it's good or bad. In this case, I think I'm doing alright?

@shaunduke I'm reading a whole bunch of mostly Ingerian writers right now, and the list will change as more writers from various African countries are findable internationally. The English-speaking literary world has a massive bias against certain #ownvoices in many countries' literature and most lists of African writers are going to reflect this.
