The whole point of the internet is: you can put something online and then others can read it, unlimited times.
You can even update it or remove it.

All it needs for this is a plain web server and an HTML document. It's not limited to 300, 600 or 6000 reads per day. 🤷‍♀️

This whole resurgence of the #personalWebsite and #ownYourContent made me feel like I kind of missed the golden age of getting your content seen and read on quality alone instead of resorting to gaming the system with clickbait and excessive SEO while working less on what you want to and more on what fits the users on platforms. 😔

One thing I'm noticing on Mastodon: there are a lot of toots that should really be blog posts. Not just long toots, but chains of toots. I find this sad because there are so many options out there to start a blog, not just the old guard of Blogger, WordPress, etc. #ownyourcontent

In last two weeks I deleted my accounts from Clubhouse, Vero, Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Medium. I moved to Mastodon and Pixelfed. Also I created self hosted instance of writefreely (writefreely.social) and moved there all articles from Medium. #ownyourcontent

People I trust on here are speaking out on the importance of owning your content.

Most say start building content on a platform you control (a personal blog). Then disperse the content from there to other platforms (Mastodon, etc.)

Anyone work at it from the OPPOSITE way? Have a worker process pulls in all social media posts into your own backup system?

Either way, the concept interests me! Share if you have a process that works well for you.

Hi there. I fully agree with your opinion to #P2P. While I think that the federated nature of the #fediverse is still better than the siloes of #bigtech that we have to endure today, it still has flaws. With P2P we can achieve more.

I made a (still very alpha) GitHub repo called ItIsMine. It is about how to get a better system for #web and #socialmedia that allows us to #ownyourcontent and prevent any vendor or platform lock in.

@harmag I guess there's one other even more radical form of doing #socialmedia and that is the distributed one. I got into checking this out while working on solutions to achieve my personal goal of #ownyourcontent. Distributed social networks like SSB (Secure Scuttlebutt) and others are really fascinating me but I still don't see or understand how they might reach the maturity of the #fediverse. For me #centralized big #tech silos are a no longer a valid option.
