The being experienced on is so outside the norm that extraordinary measures are being applied. In one case, they know that low water flows and very high temperatures cause water levels to crash (hypoxia), so they are bubbling air into some of these river pools so the do not suffocate. Absolutely crazy adaptation methods.

"Since Perseverance landed on Mars in 2021, MOXIE [Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment] has generated a total of 122 grams of oxygen – about what a small dog breathes in 10 hours. At its most efficient, MOXIE was able to produce 12 grams of oxygen an hour – twice as much as NASA’s original goals for the instrument – at 98% purity or better."

According to a new study, atmospheric oxygen could be the key factor for the emergence and development of technological civilizations. The study shows that fire, which is essential for many technological advances, is only possible in an atmosphere with a high oxygen content and that such atmospheres are rare in the universe. This could mean that planets where fire is possible, and thus civilizations that use fire, could be scarce and precious. phys.org/news/2023-08-technolo

The ocean is losing oxygen, and that’s bad news for marine life and the climate. A new study shows that the ocean has lost 2% of its oxygen in the past 60 years, mainly due to global warming and pollution. This means that the ocean is becoming more acidic, hypoxic and anoxic, threatening the survival and diversity of aquatic organisms. popsci.com/environment/ocean-d

"As the atmosphere warms, around the world are becoming ever more deprived of , forcing many species to migrate from their usual homes. Researchers expect many places to experience a decline in species diversity, ending up with just those few species that can cope with the harsher conditions. Lack of ecosystem diversity means lack of resilience."

Global warming not only increases ocean temperatures, it triggers a cascade of effects that are stripping the seas of oxygen. Fish are already moving to new waters in search of oxygen, and scientists are warning of the long-term threat to fish species and marine ecosystems.

But when researchers take the time to compare the three effects — warming, acidification, and deoxygenation — the impacts of low oxygen are the worst.

Scientists have discovered that some microbes can make oxygen without light. This process, called dark oxygenic photosynthesis, involves using hydrogen sulfide instead of water as an electron donor. This finding challenges the assumption that oxygen is a reliable indicator of life on other planets. quantamagazine.org/underground
