I definitely get his sense of despair and self doubt. I too think that it is as clear as the nose on my face that parliamentary politics is a joke and yet the majority of my acquaintances still seem to care which bastard is administrating a completely unnecessary enema. I fear for my reason.

I don't think Peter is right that the government is owned by anyone. The government is simply part of the ruling class, by definition in fact. All systems are self preserving. In a capitalist, or perhaps better oligarchy, the government will be reflective of that agenda. The people in government will, of course, be committed to that agenda and what the government does will be a reflection of those interests.

Obscure communist writer, Mike Macnair writes in 'revolutionary strategy' that just as from the point of view of the ruling class there are significant differences between the various factions in government, a post revolutionary government will be equally diverse. The differences are reflections of the different trends and agendas within the oppressors. It makes a difference to landowners, individualists, bankers, retailers who is in power. It doesn't make a difference to the poor.

We get confused on this point because democracy and suffrage were revolutionary strategies. The radicals of the 18th century, and some in the 19th ( or Mike in the 20th) saw them as a root to revolutionary power. You can see the allure of course. What the experience of Gough Whitlam shows in Australia is that even if you do manage to get a revolutionary movement into power and the establishment cannot (quickly) coopt them, the forces of reaction will use force to remove them.

In this movie Dorothy and a boy names Tim land in Oz. The movie takes place in different locations at the same time, is a sequel of another movie with different characters that claim to be similar to the ones in the original books. Tlde all over the place

To make more confusing is a title which was used by other Oz movies and a poster that reminds of the MGM movie. (They use silver slippers in this movie though)

The brother of the wicked witch is trying to takeover the land of Oz. The OG gang is bringing Dorothy back to Oz for help.

The voices were done by well known actors, the songs are fine and the movie follows roughly the logic of the MGM movie.

It's a guilty pleasure movie or a fun movie to watch with children

After the Wizard tells the story of a girl who lives in her own fantasy, has trouble to analyse and react appropriately to human emotions which gives others hard time to follow her thoughts.

On paper a most relatable character but the focus of the movie is about her imagination of the journey of the Tinwoodman and the Scarecrow.

The journey ignores bits of the canon of the book the person claims to be obsessed with which makes it distracting.

I find it wild that Oz books are still regularly banned from libraries.

The very first book was banned for depicting women in strong leadership roles and because some witches were called good.

These days "Wicked" is banned as not appropriate for children. It's not even aimed at children.
