As a Missourian, #SomebodySomewhere has a great regional feel, even though rural Illinois stands in for Manhattan, Kansas. What bothered me about #Ozark, filmed in Atlanta, was the producers spent zero minutes thinking about Ozarks locale, even though the show depended on it. I appreciate the attention to detail in the far superior #SomebodySomewhere.

After having watched #Ozark on Netflix I cannot escape the notion that Jason Bateman's character Marty Byrde differs little from Michael Bluth in Arrested Development (also played by Bateman). Its the same actor, the character is mostly cleaning up the mess his family or 3rd parties created, isn't always the smartest, and things just never seem to light up for the fella.

Ozark and Arrested Development are different beasts by their nature. This however doesn't exclude any overlap.

I know I'm late to the party but I just finished Ozark S1-4 and as Ruth Langmore might say, "I got some fuckin shit to say about that." The whole thing is obviously standing on the shoulders of Breaking Bad, but so what.

1. Writing, casting, performances, production values, all excellent.

2. They could have wrapped at the end of season 2 and would have been good by me.

3. Double that for season 3. Shit's going off the rails, but the writing is still impressive.

4. Season 4 is what all the hell do you expect me to believe. Damn! By now the only Byrde I really care about is Jonah.

5. Ruth fucking Langmore. Am I right?

6. Wendy's character journey is a mind-fuck of award season caliber. Laura Linney's patented smile.

7. Marty Byrde is always just Marty Byrde, somehow. It was strategic how they finally let him go nuts in a road rage fist fight.

8. I have issues with the last minute of the series finale.

Finished Ozark this weekend after a very quick binge watch. I can honestly say it's one of my fave shows of all time. Jason Bateman, Julia Garner and Laura Linney were all fantastic!!
