Finished reading Kate Brown's Plutopia, a history of Hanford/Richland (Washington) nuclear complex/city and the closed nuclear city of Ozersk in Soviet Russia.

Lots to digest. The parallels between the two places are spooky. Both were (are) places of privilege, state support, and insulation from the regions' larger economies. Both suffered from initial carelessness about the potential health and environmental harm of radiation exposure. /1
