I've been saving this one for since a friend sent it to me a few weeks ago.

Native Tongue | Orchestra Victoria x Mo'Ju
youtu.be/poc-7rFRWow

Mo'Ju is an amazing Australian Indigenous (Wiradjuri), Filipino artist. This track has been on my playlists for a long time, but I'd never seen this collab with Orchestra Victoria - so cool!

It's on the smaller, quieter side, but I still think it fits the brief. Thanks @sariash for running this tag! 💜

Time for a Friday afternoon book review:

Shake Some Action, by Stuart Coupe.

"At the gossipy level of anecdotes, the book’s a goldmine of titbits about Jagger, Dylan, Springsteen, Gudinski, and many more. They alone are worth the price of admission.

But as I read on, I got the feeling there’s more to it than that."

If you grew up with Australian rock music, you'll love this book.

Got that 1927 (the band, not the year) song You’ll Never Know on the brain this morning. Surprised I still know all the words. Don’t think I’ve heard it in 30 years.

Been listening to Oz band The Dugites(1978-1984) this weekend, a relatively forgotten alterna-pop early 80s Australian band whose quirky hooks are a joyful trip (Frente before Frente is one thought) - my fond childhood memory is “In Your Car”. I didnt know until today they were the band with the first song played on the FM launch of Triple J in 1980 with this commercial-radio-banned track youtu.be/3v97tvFgwgo

A bunch of the music by Ball Park Music reminds me a lot of Yves Klein Blue, and I'm kinda here for it.

I normally like Ball Park Music, but this song's lyrics leave me feeling pretty conflicted: genius.com/16999129 (CW: body shaming in the lyrics)

In an era where every Australian band who found an audience in the 1980s has reformed, the reunion of Sunnyboys will go down in history as one of the least expected, and most warmly received. The beloved Sydney powerpop quartet peaked early, releasing a classic debut album in 1981 before flaming out like a comet, derailed by overwork and lead singer Jeremy Oxley’s long struggle with schizophrenia.

Ahead of their farewell tour, the beloved 1980s power-pop band reflect on their time together, Australia’s affection for them and playing ‘slightly slower’ than they once did.

I really got into "Harpoon" back in the mid 90s. They played three or four gigs at the (late, lamented) Sandringham pub in Sydney's Newtown, just around the corner from where I lived, before suddenly disappearing. I've been trying to find out what happened to them ever since. Yesterday by chance somebody posted up a link to this, their unreleased third album, unreleased as the band "imploded" just after recording. Mystery solved!
A real heavy, nineties sound. I remember with awe the chainsaw guitars and slapping of metal chains on barrels. Great stuff!

When the kids were little we sang this song with the words "Don't be so sockless!" and now I can't hear it any other way.

As I learn the ways of Mastodon, I’m reading that I should toot some of the sorts of hashtags that interest me. I’ll post an initial handful here to (a) see if it does anything and (b) so you can tell me what I *should* have done.
