arg. outlawed emissions have shot up in the last decade.

But the appearance of CFC-13 is much more baffling. “We really have no clue” where the emissions are coming from, Vollmer says. “We don’t know of any chemical process where this will show up as a by-product.”

Well that sucks. We were doing so well with the - it's an example of how international governments simply accepted what science discovered about the atmosphere and then acted on it - something we can't seem to replicate with

But now climate change and the resulting wildfires are undoing some of that great effort as smoke from the Australia fires underwent a chemical reaction and chewed away at the

I've read it now, as well. So they don't explain the opposites, they just mention the cold bob as "warm blob" in the UTLS. There's ongoing discussion about whether or not the observational data of sea surface temperature does in actuality show the cold blob in recent decades and whether the cooling has stopped. But if the UTLS mirrors the blob as seen from satellites for the past 2 decades, I guess, this is a smoking gun for @rahmstorf and Levke Caesar no?

One other thing: the authors subtracted the 2 instances from their plots when the Southern Hemisphere had rare – and found that the trend holds without data from those months, as well.
Wish they'd also had subtracted the 2 winter/spring holes in 2011 and 2020 to see their effects on the trend. Both are shown in this short video, alongside a normal year 2017. yewtu.be/watch?v=D3JaSkPThzI

The ozone layer is recovering, as stated by United Nations Environmental Programme Ozone Secretariat, but the 2022 was within the 15 largest in /#C3S 44 year record and closed later than usual (similar to 2021 and 2020).

This year’s ozonhole is closing later than most in the last 40 years and is within the 15 largest holes in our CopernicusAtmosphere. Read more in this article on the peculiar ozone holes of 2020-2022.

The Monitoring Service 5-day forecast of total column ozone over the initialized on 1 December 00 UTC showing the final stages(?) of the 2022 as it drifts away from the pole and gradually disappearing. This has been the third year in a row of the ozone hole persisting throughout November due to cold and persistent Vortex.

For the third year in a row we are seeing the persisting well into late November, and possibly December, due to low temperatures and a strong polar vortex. monitoring of the shows 2022 following a similar trend to 2021 and 2020 with the area (temperature at 50hPa poleward of 60S) well above (below) the 1979-2019 average size.

2020 hole is large and deep

The 2020 grew rapidly from mid-August and peaked at around 24 million square kilometres in early October. It now covers 23 million km2, above average for the last decade and spreading over most of the Antarctic continent.
