Looking at #WimWenders films is filling me with painful waves of #nostalgia for a slower, more aware and #aesthetic world. The #impressionist #hd techniques he used in Until the End of the World for dream sequences are beautiful and evocative. The influence of #ozu in terms of framing and still #photography makes Wenders' best work so powerful. Now we are lost in a domain of weaponized #images ...we are drowning in #content

#InSearchOfOzu, #TheCriterionChannel 2018, #DirectedBy #DanielRaimi, is an interesting, gentle look at #objects the #director #YasujiroOzu used in, and to create, his #films, done in a way that imbues the #inanimate with an #essence, a sense of #spirit, that let them #act as representations of the #artist and shows, literally, how they helped #Ozu express his ideas on #film.
#Documentaries like this #teach me how little I really know or understand about making #movies.

Viagem a Tóquio (1953): Drama de Yasujiro Ozu no https://setimaarte.net

My admiration for Ozu grows with each film of his I see. I devoured his silents, but have been slower to hit the (more well-known) later works. Finally saw TOKYO STORY (’53). What more can be said that hasn’t already? Wonderfully simple, and must say, as a parent with teen kids who can see the future, quite relatable too. Setsuko Hara is terrific (no surprise); the scene with her and the mother a true highlight. And is there any better exchange than the “isn’t life disappointing” moment? #ozu
A HEN IN THE WIND (’48) may be considered “lesser Ozu (including by the master himself), but it’s far from a lesser work. A wife, desperate for money while her husband is away, prostitutes herself once. Telling her husband doesn’t make it any better. The guilt, grief, anger, despair created by that act consumes both of them. Thought this was quite brilliantly done- a melodramatic theme explored realistically- and violently. Glad to see this has been restored. #ozu #japanesefilm
Information about a #criminal who is hiding from international wanted in the territory of #Ukraine became known to mass media.
#Shiptsov was declared internationally wanted by #Interpol, at the moment the #OZU leader is hiding on the territory of #Ukraine, thereby trying to avoid #Russian justice.

… And then learn that the leader also has a mistress in the troupe who doesn't know about the son. And piece by piece a quiet everyday story starts to ramp up in drama. But not in the way or to the extent you might think. It's stunningly well-paced, with a fine eye for the beauty of the quotidian.
Next: I get enmeshed in the time of day.
#Lexington 's beautiful historic #kentuckytheater had a holiday market yesterday and I got some movie posters, the best being Ozu's Good Morning and it reminded me to tell Mastodon that I love to nerd out talking about #Ozu movies.

Yasujiro Ozu: Floating Weeds (1959) - Ending
"The gorgeous ending to Yasujiro Ozu's Floating Weeds (1959). The down and out Komajuro Arashi meets his mistress Sumiko (played masterfully by Ganjiro Nakamura and Machiko Kyo respectively) in a train station."
