Brolga Cranes (*Antigone rubicunda*) near Longreach, QLD, Australia.
They're so big that when they fly close overhead it is like seeing Pterodactyls in real life. And the noise/sensation of their huge beating wings as they flap - an extraordinary sensation, created by extraordinary creatures!

A Bush Curlew (*Burhinus grallarius*) in the Atherton Tablelands, QLD. These can seem incredibly tame, since their technique to avoid potential predators is to remain motionless. They're pretty common up North and we seen (and heard) lots; but I have never seen any on the more populated SE coast. Their cries at night are extremely spooky.

These little skinks often give an indication of the upcoming weather. They're out sunning themselves in the early morning - and it looks like it is going to be a wonderful day.

Interesting Cowboy Beetle (Chondropyga dorsalis) in the #garden today. They're regularly flying around, buzzing like minor jumbo jets and clumsily bumping into things, including me.
