I go through my morning toots & look at pics and signs & so on & as my aging eyes are failing I'm finding it hard to read text that has a background.
#AltText allows me to actually read the words. But I've got it easy.
It will be a shocking revelation to some but not everyone can see. Some like me can't see clearly because we are almost a hundred years old. Some like Blind Bob can't see anything at all. And I know Bob isn't alone.
Writing #AltText takes a moment but it really makes Mastodon alive for visually impaired people. They can actually join in with more of our eclectic thought processes that such a mixed & motley crew as the #Pachyderms of #Mastodon.
I've met folks on here who are wonderful human beings, & I've come across a few arseholes. This place allows us to pick & choose who we see stuff from & that's good design.
Using it in a way that encourages more people including people with challenges is good manners.

I wish there was something apart from favourite. Perhaps #important info for example. This post is hard to say much about in calling it a favourite.
Also unfortunately what sets most thinking focused #Pachyderms apart from the people who believe such nonsense, rarely see those same #hillbillies on here having a go at their masters. In other words, they'll never see it.

Good morning #Pachyderms of #fediverse.

This morning's picture for #KangaroosOfMastodon is the beautiful Bindi. She is a blue flyer doe at the time the photo was taken she was 7 months old.

Recently we are seeing more blue flyers than ever before. A blue flyer is a red kangaroo who is holding her juvenile colour which is often this beautiful silver blue colour, hence their name.

Bindi is a first Nations word meaning "girl".

We are currently running a #gofundme campaign to raise money to build a new pair of shelters and help with feed costs until travel into the outback starts again in April.

This morning I would like to introduce #Uluru who I now know is a little girl, since mum Ghirawen allowed me to pick her up and give her a bit of a #cuddle and check her stats.

She is just on 1kg, fully furred, and has 3 legs 2 arms and a delightful smiling face.

Her care and support from now on will cost around $18 AUD per week so long as she doesn't require drugs at any stage if she is injured.

Another tip for new #pachyderms I’ve found useful for navigating Mastodon.

I’m on an iOS device and haven’t found an app that works well for me, so I login to my instance using a web browser.

In my settings I activated the radio button for “Enable Advanced Web Interface” (this gives the icons to the right of my screen) and “Slow Mode” which gives me a stopping point of sorts on my screen of new posts.

Ask the pachyderms for reading suggestions and film suggestions, with a few hints on what you're interested in / things you enjoyed or prefer to avoid.

By the way, I'm calling all Mastodon users "pachyderms". I like the way it sounds! It actually means "thick-skinned" in Greek …
