Western WA has been droughty the past few summers, so I've had years to compare how different trees and bushes handle the dry conditions. In case you're interested, these do very well in the dry heat without needing supplemental water:
- Corkbark Fir
- Balsam Fir
- Grand Fir
- Oregon White Oak
- Western Hemlock
- Deodar Cedar
- Huckleberry (also tolerates shade)
- Oregon Grape

@Kjl I so want to get a #pacificnorthwestgardening hashtag going! I would love to find more gardeners on here to share ideas and woes with! I am in Oregon and this is my fourth summer building out the garden. I am still learning what will survive our clay soil throughout the seasons and how to increase my succession planting. There is so much to learn!
A few shots from the garden this morning. The morning light has been beautiful. I keep getting my dahlias mixed up, but this one is actually mystery day, along with a flowering maple, my messy grass/perennial border, and Jude the Obscure my favorite rose for scent! #gardening #pacificnorthwestgardening
