Gol darn it, why do I want to set up a #packetBBS now? I blame waiting this long for lunch.

To be clear, the only reason this is a bad idea is that I don't have enough local radio friends for a BBS.

#winlink: also successful, though if #WinlinkWednesday is a thing, maybe I should have worked on it yesterday :alex_crazy: The hard part was finding a node near me that was listening for 1200 baud packet on 2 meters…and then finding one that actually bothered to respond to me!

I’m getting better at #systemd, which gives me cause for concern. :alex_grimace:

@w6sfi is there anything you recommend reading about how to set up #packetBBS?

Spent some time with #direwolf yesterday and finally figured out how to make it transmit packets. It wasn’t a software problem at all, it was the USB-to serial cable not pushing enough voltage to actually trigger #PTT. Never forget to #debug the physical layer. Next two stops are #packetbbs and #aprs #messaging, I think, in some order or other.

Currently testing old TNT #packetradio terminal and DPBOX #packetbbs freshly build on Raspbian without ax25 stack

I am seeing a bunch of chatter here about #PacketRadio . If i could only get a few people to put up nodes in my area, it would be so fun to build a BBS. I feel like the whole thing could be a raspberry pi connected to a mobile 2m rig.. #PacketBBS

Este es mi hamshack. Un handy Radioddity GD-77 para los satelites NOAA que publico en @santiago@muro.undernet.uy , un Yaesu FTM-3100 para VHF y un Yaesu FT-840 para HF. Luego tengo una Pioneer DEH-P3700MP con SuperTuner IIID para FM Dxing y algunas radios receptoras más con onda corta como la Tecsun PL-880, ElectroBrand Model 2971 y una Eton Mini, y cuando las autoridades habiliten de una vez el cifrado para la transmision de contraseñas en el espectro radioeléctrico, voy a montar lamprimera packet radio BBS con el SignaLink USB que está al lado del handy y hasta la hacemos federar con activitypub, que tal? #hamradio #radio #shortwave #swl #packetbbs #packetradio

@F1RUM #aprs stations aren't linked so do not work like traditional #packetbbs networks. Besides geolocation, many are used for #wx telemetry and are linked to home weather stations. Messaging is limited to short "text messages" and is not very common.

Do any #packetradio #packetbbs systems still exist (yes, I just wrote BBS system, I'm sorry).

Or is leveraging #js8 the best way to do 1-many, many-many store and forward communication?
