Anybody doing #gopher or #gemini over #packetRadio on #amateurRadio frequencies?

The PacComm advertisement claims this TNC ran for 2 full days off a 9 volt battery.
š¤
This is basically a full Z80 computer with SIO and 32k ram.
(eprom is missing in this photo)
The printer option would have added an Intel 8255 4pin IC.
I guess they made 9 volt batteries stronger back in the 1980s lol
It looks like a SMT version of the NinoTNC is getting closer to reality.
@Crispius @atomicpoet @fediversenews I wonder if the #HamRadio folks might have some ideas about this. #packetradio was once a thing. I wonder if it is still.
Although this Facebook group was initially founded in the North West of the UK it has rapidly grown.
We welcome all Radio Amateurs nationally and internationally. All you need is a love of packet radio or a desire to learn about the mode.
Ask questions, post useful stuff and encourage others. Letās get the UK and the world connected again

What a lovely rabbit hole #packetRadio is.

A very active Facebook group promoting the worldwide revival of packet radio. Itās retro but fun and evolving with our new technology. #hamr #hamradio #packetradio
How's this for a Throwback Thursday? I just logged into a packet bbs, digipeted to another node, and sent myself an email over the packet bbs network. #hamradio #packetradio
How might a #PacketRadio AX.25 network be realised using QDX transceivers over HF? (Assuming good aerials/PA made more resilient)
Anyone with #DigiRig experience want to help me diagnose a weird issue I'm seeing?
I'm trying to hook it up to my #Yaesu #FT70 with the cable directly from DigiRig.
When I try to send packets from direwolf, the PTT keys (yay!) for a split second (boo) before just cutting off, and nothing is heard over RF.
Out of curiosity, I tried using the stock BTECH #APRS cable with the UV5R, and that also doesn't appear to work, though that could easily be the cable.

this past year alone, my family has faced evacuation twice in the #canadian north. during the current evac, thousands of northerners have zero communication with their families, emergency personnel or wildfire data.
this is entirely due to the collapse of NorthwesTel's fibre network infrastructure and zero secondary systems for comms. the sub/arctic is infamous for its fragile, ancient comms architecture.
i want to change that, and i'd like help thinking out loud about potential citizen-owned/operated technologies for long-distance emergency comms.
#hamradio and #packetradio enthusiasts - could you please recommend some research resources on the following:
- legal/frequency considerations for non-voice/packet transmission specific to #Canada
- recommended hardware & software for 1000km+ transmission, tcp/ip
- examples of amateur radio clubs that have undertaken this kind of role before
if possible, please respond with links to documentation, research and/or policy papers.
my entire family has worked wildfire management since the teletype days, and i hopefully can effect some actual useful change for northerners here.

One of the things I picked up was a Kantronics KPC-3. Curious if I can get it connected to try out some #PacketRadio.
I managed to get Net44 working (https://www.ardc.net/44net/) but sadly couldn't do it on NetBSD š
44net doesn't use standard RIP or ripv2. It uses Rip44 which routed doesn't support. I was able to manually make routes but to have the whole 44.0.0.0 address space reachable I would have to manually type in each route. There are 780+ of them.

Next step is to get BPQ working with net44 š¤
Doing a little work on the #packetradio hill top node. Upgraded antenna and levels re-adjusted. The antenna is now a TRAM 1480 hanging 40' in the air from a tree branch š³
So far it has survived the winter, summer sun, and an ant infestation.
Will we ever have handhelds that can be fully controlled and expose a KISS TNC over bluetooth?

The Packet Radio revival has begun.
The North West Packet Group was founded to promote the mode in the UK and beyond. The website is now available and can be found here.
Plenty of other information and downloads available with more being added daily.
We now have two BBS nodes on air. GB7MBC and GB7ROS with plenty more to follow.
For online chat see our Facebook Group https://m.facebook.com/groups/1018220672883061/?ref=share #hamradio #packetradio
Some cool things on the #packetradio networks.
Someone made a BBS style "WALL" script for PBBS. There is one reachable at RRRWAL:PE1RRR-2 from Eastnet and I think most of the other packet networks.

Also there PDP11 sim reachable at TSTAR:G6AML7

Hi #HamRadio folk, Iām interested in exploring āmodernā #PacketRadio, #APRS etc.. back in 1992 I used to use a hardware TNC (AEA PK-88) to connect to local nodes, send/receive mail etc. over 2m/70cm.. Now I have #DireWolf set up, and it can decode my handheldās APRS beaconsā¦ but how do I get my 1992 back, what client software gives me messaging/routing/digipeating etc. ? Bonus points for open source/Mac/Linux :) Thanks!
