Illinois enacts mandatory paid leave ‘for any reason’
"Illinois will become one of three states to require employers to offer paid time off for any reason after Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a law on Monday that will take effect next year. ... Illinois employers must offer workers paid time off based on hours worked, with no need to explain the reason for their absence as long as they provide notice in accordance with reasonable employer standards."

A 1993 family and medical leave law was supposed to be just the start. Thirty years later, not much has changed.
The modern shortcomings of FMLA — like the limits to eligibility and the fact that it is unpaid — were the product of legislative compromise built into the structure of the law.

How Democrats want to address paid family leave in 2023 - Vox
It’s an uphill battle in the new Congress — but Democrats aren’t letting the policy go.

Need to give a big shoutout to #Oregon the paid leave for all employees for up to 90 days is life changing. Thank you for prioritizing our families and remembering we are not just cogs in a profit machine. #paidleave #thankyou
Access to paid sick leave is 10 percentage points lower among full-time workers in U.S. rural vs. urban areas (68% v. 77%) -- increasing the likelihood people will work contagious or forgo health care. These inequities will likely persist if change if left to individual employers or localities.

Imaging my surprise that incoming #GOP leadership gives zero forks about #PaidLeave #ChildCare #CTC & things kids need RIGHT NOW, but they are super interested in using their time on hearings to scapegoat “the most dangerous woman in the world” for Trump’s failure to address #COVID responsibly. https://twitter.com/rweingarten/status/1602460882319335424?s=21&t=lBA1DK-fmEdU7OgT5g5K5g

After nearly three years, #covid finally got me this week.
It came on fast and flattened me Tuesday. Since then, I've slowly emerged from fatigue and rattling cough.
Thankful for #vaccines and #paidleave, or this would have been way worse.
If #American #workers truly understood how badly they were being treated compared to the rest of the industrialized world, there would be a revolution.

The fact that we are still in a #pandemic and trail workers do not have ANY sick days is absolutely absurd. We know that #PaidLeave is incredibly important for public health. It’s absolutely unacceptable that (any) people are being asked to work under these conditions.
I know that the Biden admin is framing the recent bill passed as an incremental progress step, but the position it’s putting workers in feels really gross.
This part: "Approaching year three of a global pandemic, it’s shocking that the U.S. is still debating whether workers should be allowed to take time off work when they’re sick or need to see a doctor."

I’ll never understand wanting employees to work while they’re ill. So you want your customers and other employees subjected to that? Ew. And how productive do you think people are when they feel like shit? Doesn’t make any damn sense. It’s gross in multiple ways… #PaidLeave #TheWorldIsWack
