I’ve met a few #WhiteImmigrants here in #Aotearoa, and I’m struck by something rather disturbing: a general sense of them having NO desire to #integrate into the society and culture here. What disturbs me about this should be obvious, but I’ll spell it out for those who can’t get what I’m saying.

Were they #brown or #Muslim, their attitude would earn them scorn from #WhiteKiwis / #Pakeha. But because they’re white themselves, it’s totally acceptable for them to be loud and proud about it. 😑

#CW #colonialism So I learned this week: Iwikatea is Māori for Balclutha. I never knew or thought to look, until I had to come here for something. Grateful I'm now becoming even more aware of how much colonialism robbed the language of Tangata Whenua and how much Te Reo I still lack. Doing all I can to help rectify this without taking up space at Māori language classes which I feel belong to those whose culture this is. On doing my hashtags it occurred to me that *some* people might see #Maori and say that's not fair, where's the #pakeha hashtag? After all, one look at me and you can see I'm way more Pākehā.
And that's the point.
We have hashtags to find each other, and Pākehā are easy to find, it's a Pākehā world.
if I describe a character but don't specify their ethnicity, almost all of you will picture a white person, that's just our default setting.
