"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives..."

"It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
~ Carl Sagan

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives."

The "Pale Blue Dot" image was taken by Voyager 1 on Feb 14, 1990, 6b km away, minutes before its cameras were shut off forever.

The updated image below from 2020 was processed by JPL engineer @kevinmgill with input from 2 of the image's original planners.

(Valentine’s Day) in 1990, Voyager 1 turned around and took a picture of Earth from billions of miles away (beyond Pluto) amidst the glare of the Sun scattering off camera surfaces, the Earth’s reflected light falling on 1/10th of one pixel. Did you know that the spacecraft also captured Venus? (2nd image: is in the brightest beam of the left inset; Venus is between beams in the right inset; Sun is on the far right).
