Heart of the Cosmos.
Heart-shaped #meteorite pendant made from #pallasite. Shiny nickel-iron with golden peridot crystals set in sterling #silver. The crystals glow like cosmic stained glass when backlit.
From the Galactic Stone & Ironworks collection.
Detailed view of an unlabelled Pallasite from the Aukland Museum Geology Collection.

For #MeteoriteMonday, this is the #Imilac pallasite.
Imilac #meteorites were first recovered out of Chile's Atacama Desert in 1822. It is a #pallasite type of meteorite that represents the core/mantle boundary of a large asteroid.
Specimen shown is a polished slice from the Galactic Stone & Ironworks Collection. Not for sale.

For #ThinSectionThursday, I present the Jepara #meteorite.
The Jepara meteorite was found buried in mud during excavations in Java Indonesia in May 2008.
It is a #pallasite type of meteorite composed of iron and olivine. It was heavily oxidized and the iron rusted away, leaving behind a web of olivine (peridot) crystals. Jepara is known for it's unusual appearance compared to other pallasites.

For #MeteoriteMonday and #MineralMonday, I present the Sericho meteorite.
Sericho is a type of stony-iron #meteorite known as a #pallasite. Sericho meteorites were first recovered near the village of Habaswein in Kenya in 2016.
Pallasites are composed of a nickel-iron matrix with scattered olivine (peridot) crystals, and they represent the core-mantle zone of a large asteroid.
This specimen has been sliced, stabilized, and made into a pendant.

(3/?)
They're not as sexy as a properly-prepared #pallasite slice, but they are still aesthetically-pleasing.
The smallest one weighs about 2 grams and is about 1cm square. The largest is approx. 5 times that size. This puts them squarely in the "thumbnail" category of mineral specimens - big enough to study and appreciate, but small enough to be affordable for casual collectors.
My job today is to weigh them, photograph them, and label them. I will keep a couple and sell/trade the rest.

#Pallasite #meteorite pendant. Metal portion is nickel iron alloy and the golden areas are olivine (peridot) crystals. Looks like #cosmic stained glass.
