Un altro dato inquietante è la scarsità non di risorse (che ci sarebbero, e questo meriterebbero discorsi a parte) ma di personale: mancano i medici, gli infermieri, gli psicologi.
Sono andate quasi deserte le sessioni di esami di ammissione per le neonate Scuole di Specialità in #Cure #Palliative (di certo anche per un problema di informazione: quanti neolaureati sapevano della loro istituzione a partire dal prossimo anno accademico?), e anche ai concorsi delle ASL si presentano in pochissimi.

Faccio mio l'auspicio della Federazione #Cure #Palliative, ma i progressi nella diffusione della cultura e informazione ad esse relative non bastano.
La Legge 38 del 2010 ha quasi tredici anni ed è inapplicata nella maggior parte del territorio nazionale, dove le Reti di Cure Palliative ancora non esistono o se esistono non sono funzionanti, con tanti - troppi - pazienti e famiglie a non sapere a chi rivolgersi: già questo basterebbe a dare un'idea della portata del problema.

When I go see one of my #Palliative care team members, he starts each appointment with the question, “How are you living?” As in, what are you doing with your life so you have as few regrets as possible? It’s also an invitation for me to share what I’ve been doing on my bucket list. Our collective goal is for me to live the best life possible given my circumstances. As a hospice and palliative #MusicTherapist, I think I have an unique appreciation for the care I receive.

Mom died last night, not long after I bought the bagpipes. I joked she couldn't stand the thought of living with a beginning self-teaching piper.

I mean, who could blame her.

Humour as a coping mechanism is a bigger part of #palliative care than it gets credit for, I think.

Waiting for mom to die is the worst part of #Palliative care. She's done. She told me she's done. The doctors prepared her to die before the end of August. Now it's end of November and she's ready.

There is special #palliative care Blue Cross coverage in #Alberta. Regular coverage doesn't cover many palliative #medications

No one told us to apply for that until quite late. So I've now maxed out my credit card with almost $5000 of medicine in two weeks.
